Stress…
Grief… Family distress… Drug and alcohol abuse…These
and other behavioral health concerns impact your employees and cost
you money every day.
It is
estimated that businesses spend more than $120 billion each year due
to employee personal or emotional problems. According
to Harvard Medical School Researcher Ronald Kessler, depression
alone takes a hefty toll on the U.S. workplace affecting about 6% of
employees each year and costing $30 billion annually in lost
productivity.
It
should be no surprise that how you respond to the health care needs
of your employees greatly impacts your bottom line. Consider that:
-
Depression is more damaging to everyday health than chronic diseases
such as angina, arthritis, asthma and diabetes
-
Troubled employees are up to 5 ½ times more likely to miss work than
their colleagues
-
Unscheduled absenteeism can cost you almost $700 per employee per
year
-
An
estimated 15% of job accidents occur because employees are
distracted by personal problems
-
One in
four working adults will suffer from a mental illness this year
-
One
impaired worker can negatively impact the performance of up to 11 of
his or her colleagues.

How an EAP Complements Your Current
Health Care Coverage
Employee personal or emotional problems result in an estimated $120
billion each year in costs resulting from:
-
An
upsurge of job-related accidents
-
Increased absenteeism
-
Inflated health care costs
-
Reduced
productivity
-
Diminished morale
-
Loss of

including evaluations, referrals and counseling services, are free
to your employees and members of their households – that means no
co-pay, ever. Better yet, New Opportunities includes many counseling
services that may not be covered by your current health care
provider, such as family or marriage counseling.

How New Opportunities Works
Encountering emotional or personal problems? Simply call New
Opportunities 24-hours-a-day/7-days-a-week at 814-456-0584 for free,
confidential support. In most cases, the caller will be asked to
meet with one of our knowledgeable, certified professional
therapists or counselors in person. In some cases, the caller
requires extensive services and is referred to a community treatment
facility or provider; the cost of treatment then becomes the
responsibility of the referent.

information about how you, your employees and members of your
households can benefit from Stairways Behavioral Health New
Opportunities.

Valuing Confidentiality
Employers receive quarterly activity reports explaining how and when
the EAP was utilized. Of course, New Opportunities is a strictly
confidential service. For this reason, you will likely not know who
has taken advantage of the EAP – you will only know that services
were accessed and what assessments were made. The only exception is
when, as a condition of continued employment, an employee is
required to access the EAP due to problems affecting his or her work
performance. In this instance, the referring party may share
information surrounding the referral with you if the employee gives
written consent.

Stairways
Behavioral Health New Opportunities clients, like the Erie
Times-News, proudly refer the Stairways EAP above other EAPs.
“We would be 100%
comfortable and confident in recommending to employers the value of
an EAP, and also stress that the EAP provider is equally important
in a successful EAP program. Thus, New Opportunities would be our
recommendation to provide such services.”
